Not Just For COVID: Face Masks Can Help With Allergies
- On April 4, 2022
The face masks we are now use to wearing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 can also help you combat seasonal allergies.
We have all become used to wearing masks to help stem the spread of COVID, but those same masks could offer some temporary relief from spring allergies. A 2020 study of nurses found that “nurses who wore N95 or surgical masks experienced 40% fewer nasal allergy symptoms.” N95 masks, for example, are designed to filter out particles even smaller than pollen, one of the most common allergens.
Pollen particles range in size from 10 to 100 micrometers. For comparison, an N95 mask can block particles as tiny as 0.3 micrometers, making them very effective against pollen. “Similar to the viruses, an N95 is the most protective,” says Parikh. “Because they filter out 95% of particulate matter.”

Of course, masks provide only temporary relief without addressing the underlying allergy or sinus issues. STSI is here to help with a variety of allergy testing and treatment option.s
